It's a pleasant book that has a passage with the same appeal to be found in the song of Ol' McDonald Had a Farm. The cat went ""woof"" and had to learn how to meow. Part of her training involved a trip to the zoo where animal noises are demonstrated from cage to cage, building in a chant made up of what each is likely to sound like. The pictures might have made the difference in this inconsequential nonsense which culminates in the cat's teaching herself to say catly things. However, it is illustrated in cartoons that show an off-kilter Victorian world colored gray, blue and green and only the very short and simple sentences of the text recommend the book as pleasantly unnecessary easy reading material.
