MASS PERSUASION

An examination, by means of public opinion testing, of the processes and techniques of persuasion. The findings here are based on the Kate Smith bond drive; factors considered are the marathon method which was used, a thematic analysis of the various appeals played up, the personality of Kate Smith as an affecting consideration, listener predisposition to buy bonds, the social and cultural context of the sentiments, with a conclusion based on the technical and moral implications of this drive. Under the aegis of Lazarsfeld, who has conducted many surveys along this line, this contributes further to the knowledge of public opinion and public response, will be valuable to certain types of agencies.
