A book-and-fun-loving police lieutenant, his film magazine editor girlfriend, a not-so-hidden Mafia ""bank"" and the reunion of a Catholic prep school are the main ingredients of this sleepy little charmer of a detective story which is as much about good hip living on the upper East Side as anything else. Frustrated by an abortive raid planned seven months in advance, the cop accidentally stumbles on five-and-a-half million dollars cash. He promptly donates it to a pal's widow and his old school before leaving the country forever, but alive -- thanks to the intervention of Father Minervini, S.J., whose brother is a big mafia don with just enough moola to keep him and his blond and beautiful lady and her Great Dane Harold basking on some beach in the big dolce vita. An unpretentious breeze of a book with no intention other than that of a good time -- on these terms it admirably succeeds.
