TRUMPET IN THE WILDERNESS

Good historical novel, which deserves a better break than it is apt to get. The period is that about the War of 1812 -- but the war, in spite of the effect it has on Jubal Johnson, the hero, is incidental to the romance. Jubal had left Philadelphia and the girl he loved, to go to Ohio to establish a newspaper. Then came the war -- he is almost killed by an Indian -- and months later, when he recovers and gets back, the girl has married someone else. He goes to Lake Erie, falls in love with Ann -- and she in turn is captured by the Indians. The battle of Lake Erie intervenes before he finds her and they are reunited. Well paced tale.
