by Robin Pulver ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 1, 1990
Poor Mrs. Toggle! She can't get out of her fuchsia-colored coat because the zipper is jammed; moreover, the ""thingamajig"" is missing. The children in her class, the principal (Mr. Stickler, who believes that keeping the lines of children straight is the key), and the school nurse (who sticks a thermometer in Mrs. Toggle's mouth before noticing that she's not a child) all fail to pull off the coat. Only Mr. Abel, the custodian, knows what to do--and knows the real name for the pull-tab. Pulver has a winner with this first book--a briskly paced, comic view of school and a thoroughly satisfying case of the teacher caught in what's normally a child's trap. Alley's illustrations, appropriately, are mildly satirical and lighthearted.
