TILIO: A Boy of Papua

Hilda Van Stookum, whose own beautiful Day On Skates established her as artist and author in her own right, has translated and illustrated this story of New Guinea. The particular tribe of Papuans of which Tilio was a member was practically exterminated. Tilio himself was taken as a worker by Hassan, a stranger, and eventually he was rescued from Hassan by a Dutch missionary. Hunting birds of paradise, wild bears and cassowaries; seeking the eggs of the maleo hen, work and play of native boys and the white men who come to lespoil them.
