THE BELLS OF AMSTERDAM

Definitely for third or fourth grade reading ability, this story of Amsterdam in the 16th century. An orphan boy who has learned bell ringing makes friends with Rembrandt's delicate son, Titus, and he is taken to the country as a companion for Titus, and poses for Rembrandt. His musical gift brings him fresh experiences, and eventually he finds his father and learns his identity. A colorful picture of the city and the period, for eight and nine year olds.
