**The world of the young Tatums and their dog, Tough Enough, has been made vivid to the young reader through the preceding five books which deal with their life in the Smoky Mountains. Once again the authors conjure up the atmosphere of freedom and exploration which binds the large family of children to each other as they first play at being Indians, and then become, for a day and night, a part of a Cherokee family. The grey-blue illustrations further emphasize the poetry of their lives as they give full vent to their young imaginations and hold dominion over their world of hills, fields, and woods. The Tatums never disappoint the young mind which is sensitive to the excitement of changing nature and strong domestic ties. One of the best of the series.
