LIFE AND MORALS

This is by no means a book for the man in the street, but rather one for the philosopher, the theologian, the professor of Christian ethics. This is not to minimize its significance or to under-estimate its importance. For one reason, while the man in the street has been finding it increasingly difficult to determine what is right and what is wrong is that there has been so much loose thinking on that subject by those who are expected to be our guides and mentors on ethical questions. Professor Holmes' review of the development of moral standards and his consideration of some of the perplexing ethical problems of the day in the light of the findings of the biologists and psychologists will not satisfy every reader. However he does throw much needed light on these subjects, and every one interested in the philosophical basis of ethics should be familiar with this scholarly book.
