BIRD: The Christmastide Battle

Bird is real military history, though written with less of a vengeance than one might expect from Army historian Brig. Gen. S. L. A. ""Slam"" Marshall, an inveterate analyst. This is the story of a small but intense battle fought in 1966 by a U.S. artillery outpost in a South Vietnamese coastal province, to an outnumbered but victorious conclusion. The battle is described with a sharp emphasis on the experience of the combatants, and illustrates the type of action which is being fought in Vietnam. Save for the fact that Marshall's point of view includes some assumptions which not all of us are willing to accept.
