PUFFY GOES TO SEA

One of the most attractively designed books we've seen -- but one wishes that the text measured up to the format. Puffy, a small river fish, is tempted by a wandering big fish to go off to sea and investigate for himself oceans and strange fish and excitements. In the Gulf of Mexico Puffy met strong currents, great looks which baffled and bruised him; he saw incredible sights and strange fish, and acquired a scar -- and he came home to his friend, Freddie, and the honeysuckles. The author's first try at the juvenile field, and while we learn interesting things about the tarpon, the amberjack, dolphin, sea anenomes, etc. we wish Miss Woodall had avoided writing down to her readers. Mariinsky's many illustrations in color are worth the price.
