Around the race tracks they call me The Genius."" After cheerfully disavowing his nickname, Mr. Lewin then proceeds to demonstrate how he acquired it in years of handicapping and stable management. Between this and Joe Hirsch's A Treasury of Questions and Answers From the Morning Telegraph and Daily Racing Form (p. 418), the average horseplayer will probably better his odds. This has lengthy, detailed summaries which include phoney tips and how to avoid them, tip sheet terminology, the difference between pace and speed horses, post positions, track conditions, weight and how to judge its importance, jockeys and trainers to watch and how to get the longest run for your money (bet win and show on the long shots). An anecdotal reference for that ""minimum"" two hour pre-starting gate handicapper's homework.
