PRINCE OF FOXES

One of the best historical novels of the year- paralleling at many points the story, as well as the period, of Samuel's Web of Lucifer. Italy under the Borgias provides a vigorous and lusty background for the story of a young lieutenant in the Borgias forces, who is sent to the d'Estes in order to manipulate the marriage of the dangerous Lucrezia. Into the story- fast paced adventure, with cloak and dagger type of incident (at its best) is woven the romance of young Andrea Orsini and Camilla Baglione, in whose services he deserts the Borgia cause in order to defend the democratic ideals of Citta del Monte. Grand story telling.
