SAIL HO!

This begins the memoirs of the wartime Captain of the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth with a nostalgic recall of his ""adventures in sail"". His first voyage- after an unsuccessful attempt to stowaway -- took young James, at 15, as apprentice on a sailing vessel bound for the Pacific. This first voyage proved the most thrilling, the longest remembered, and he rounded the world four times. By 1905 he had ""gone into steamers"", and now- after 43 years- he looks back wistfully to the ""carefree days in sail"". Full of seaman's lore and the daily events of a seafaring life, this has winning charm.
