ALL GONE!; OH, NO!

In each of these small, square books, 12 situations explore the meaning of the title phrase. Left-hand pages, briefly captioned, set the scene: Baby tossing his ""teddy bear""; right-hand pages, repeating the title, show what happened next: the bear is out of reach (""All gone!""). Garland's illustrations are cheerful and lively; her choices of toddler misdemeanors (to which the adult response is ""Oh, No!"") are universal (spilling the dog's water; grabbing Granny's glasses; dumping a bowl of lunch on the head), while the things that are ""All Gone"" make nicely varied dramas of potent interest to the intended audience (a popped balloon, bathwater, a drink of milk). Just right for the youngest and their slightly older siblings.
