CECIL RHODES

Rhodes scholarships have perpetuated the name of Cecil Rhodes for this generation, even outside the British Empire. But this is a biography which in its handling entitles it to wider interest than that confined to the reader who knows something already of the subject and the background of South Africa. A brilliant piece of writing, as well as a revealing study of the man and his times. An important book, perhaps the best biography the first three months of 1933 have produced. Rhodes was a vital factor in empire building, a man of tremendous force and driving power, fascinating, whether good or bad, intensely human, essentially dramatic in molding his life. His biographer is already known for her novels of South Africa's and has done her best work in this book. An essential item for colleges and public libraries, and a book marked for general sale as well.
