SENTENCED TO ADVENTURE

Pure adventure -- a succession of dramatic yarns, a bit on the tall side, and grand reading (particularly for men). Zolo escaped from the Russian revolution at the age of eleven, and after a brief education went to Canada and joined the Hudson Bay Company. He spent three strenuous years in the far north -- then back to Canada, where he joined a local police force, dabbled in rum running, tried reporting, which took him to China and back. Bare narrative style -- no elaboration -- no build-up -- completely impersonal.
