Mr. Simon uses a selection of everyday experiences and some suggested exercises to illustrate the essentials of Newtonian mechanics. The concepts are developed at an intuitive level, in terms of the activities that are either familiar to the young reader or suitable for carrying out at home. He may develop a real feel for the idea of inertia from Mr. Simon's presentation; although this is only a beginning, it is very difficult normally.
