THE CELLAR AT NO. 5

Niggardly old Mrs. Rampage is saddled with a companion, Mrs. Roach, whose imperturbable amiability is difficult to endure and only thinly conceals her appropriation of Mrs. Rampage's physical possessions as well as her desire to undermine her emotional security. When all other efforts to dispose of Mrs. Roach fail, murder succeeds- but the reprieve is short-lived too. An estimable exercise in meanness and malice, to which meager lives and circumstances contribute.
