THE INNOCENT CONSUMER VS. THE EXPLOITERS

It's easy enough to be taken in by this kind of book which indulges in a good deal of explicit (brand) name calling, finger pointing and knuckle rapping re our ""massive waste of family money."" All with supportive fact-finding. This overhauls not necessarily new material for those who have comparison shopped around in books (ibid, Ella Gale's $$$$ And Sense --Fleet; Fred Trump's Buyer Beware--Abingdon) but it does expose some of the longer-term dangers in instant credit, consumer victimization via television, industry's bloc vs. government legislation, loan companies, packaging illusions and misrepresentation (frozen shrimp creole--only 16% shrimp), trading stamps and referral plans, pricing, etc. The author served on the President's Consumer Advisory Council; his Consumer's Guide to Better Buying sold 700,000 copies; and his most recent How To Make the Most of Your Money (1966) is another way of gauging the available audience.
