THE LONG WALK

A Polish youth, arrested on trumped-up spying charges is tortured to the extreme in Russia and in a mock trial sentenced to 25 years of hard labor in Siberia. With six fellow convicts and, later, a girl they find in the forest, there is an amazing escape across harrowing wastes, facing problems of weather, hunger, death. Their survival techniques, the other people they meet who also hope for freedom- these make a fantastic narrative that belongs in the annals of ordeal.
