MEN AT WORK

This isn't a book on the labor problem. It is a book of case studies -- true stories -- of experiments in increasing efficiency by approaching the problems of men at work as a human problem -- by applying principles of democracy to the human side of technical progress. Chase writes so convincingly, so entertainingly, that he sometimes makes things too easy, too simple -- but he is readable. There is a chapter on the personnel studies at the Western Electric Plant at Hawthorne, Illinois --experiments in group action; there are reports on the Training Within Industry Program; on the 100 share croppers who learned to live and produce on the flatlands of Missouri; on the making over of a ghost town in Washington, on TVA...Good inspirational quality here.
