A SEASON OF EVIL

Marionette-maker Midge Thornton is sent to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands where assorted acts of vandalism suggest collective racist trouble. Ostensibly she is studying the doll collection of an elderly Dane (even the dolls' eyes have a color problem--they change from brown to blue) but then there's also a murder. The story which veers from black magic to black power is quite overburdened but why cavil--the ladies will enjoy the pleasant matte finish.
