MONNIE HATES LYDIA

You'll hate her too when you see how enthusiastically Monnie prepares surprises for her older sister's tenth birthday and how snotty Lydia's treatment is in return. Daddy sympathizes with Monnie but advises her to be a good sport; she tries, but reaches her limit when she brings on the cake and Lydia insists, ""Oh, Monnie. You did not make it. You just helped and you know it."" This time though Lydia is called upon to be a good sport, for Monnie mashes the frosted cake right into her sister's face. Under Daddy's tactful management it all ends amicably; in fact you can't help feeling that he's the hero of the piece. But your sympathies will be with Monnie all the way, and Diane Paterson's quirky, expressive fine line drawings make it impossible not to share the view through the little sister's eyes.
