DRIVING OUT THE DEVILS

Back in 1969 in Houston, Sybil Leek and her family were almost possessed until la Leek performed one of her incantations. Now as she began to write this book she was overcome by a mysterious sickness, there were windy crosscurrents and bad odors in the house, one of her birds died and a knife flew out of the dishwasher to nick her daughter-in-law. She barely survived to complete it and here it is -- an account of demonology ancient and present, attitudes and approaches toward it, and current manifestations which have spread like chickenpox since the film. She concludes with an occasional command/commanding performance of her own which ends with the words, ""Depart. . . depart. . .depart!"" -- the likeliest envoi you can think of.
