THE JAPANESE GARDEN: An Approach to Nature

The historical development of Japanese gardens, centering on the basic elements (stones, sand, grass, trees, water) -- text by Mr. Ito, illumining photographs (many in brilliant color) by Mr. Iwamiya, design by Mr. Kamekura. Ah, the garden: ""By incorporating into it the idea of change, the idea even of death, it triumphs over death itself -- it is alive."" So is this harmonious book.
