UNIVERSE 6

A short but adventurous sf anthology dominated by Steven Utley and Howard Waldrop's deadpan alternate-history documentation of Custer's last paratroop battle--including Mark Twain's interview with one of the surviving Indian aces. Among the other six stories: Harlan Ellison in a mood of lyrical nihilism; Brian Aldiss skeptically charting a dream-research breakthrough by way of alternative fictional points of view; John Shirley skillfully exploring a rather wobbly scientific premise involving the collection of negative energy radiated by dying hospital patients. Attractive.
