The pink of popular perfection in the annual which selects some twenty out of the two hundred which appeared in last year's issues, reflects a variety and catholicity of tastes in these stories of fathers and sons, husbands and wives, some sports, comedy, fantasy- and one ghost. Of the names which have recognition value are William Saroyan, Gerald Kersh, John Vandercook, Paul Horgan, Frank O'Rourke, Agnes Sligh Turnbull- and although there may be little for longevity, there's more than enough for present pleasure. Of particular merit are Saroyan's An Ornery Kind Of kid and Paul Horgan's moving Daybreak.
