Roethke's poems are not new to juvenile anthologies but if this collection brings him new readers we're all for it. There are 27 short poems here, set off by ""Child on Top of a Greenhouse"" and ""My Papa's Waltz,"" buoyed by a few bits of inspired nonsense such as ""Dinky"" and ""Once Upon a Tree"" and otherwise consisting mainly of the wonderful animal poems -- ""The Bat,"" ""The Sloth,"" ""Snake,"" etc.
