by Thomas Molnar ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 15, 1967
So long as mankind suffers, it will dream of better worlds; and so long as mankind dreams, it will attempt to build utopias. A poetic, and ego-inflating sentiment, perhaps; but, Professor Molnar points out, one which describes the symptoms of a dangerous malady: the desire of man to escape from a real -life situation which he has not the fortitude to bear or the energy to alter. Such is the origin of man's utopias, from that of More to those of communism, socialism, of Teilhard de Chardin, etc., and Professor Molnar pursues his thesis through the origins and ramifications of utopian thought exploring the beliefs and logical lacunae in the writings of True Believers in the political, religious, and philosophical fields. An intriguing and frequently illuminating work of interpretation, Molnar's book may be recommended to the literate general reader as well as to the student of history, philosophy, of theology.
