POETRY AND DRAMA

The Theodore Spencer Memorial Lecture delivered at Harvard last year, on the subject of verse drama. The master follows his own explorations in that medium with an analysis of some of the difficulties and alterations in technique encountered in creating urder in the Cathedral, Family Reunion, and The Cocktail Party. Throughout Mr. Eliot restates his contention that the poet-playwright must work toward verse which answers first the immediate demands of drama. Stimulating, occasionally enlightening, but too leisurely for concentrated analysis. For the coterie.
