Along with the migration of industry, China- between 1937- 39-had a migration of schools and colleges into Free China from Japanese-controlled China. A group of young students, part of the big trek, become involved in many adventures,- the rescue of a downed American pilot, a run-in with a local grafting official, trouble when they try to set up a health program. These young people were part of the large group of modern Chinese working to modernize China to take her place in a high- powered world, with the assured feeling that East and West can work together. A stirring book with lots of interesting details here for the more mature upper teens.
