The ten year old author of the delightful O Ye Jigs & Juleps (1962) grew up and gracefully described herself as ""...an animate old fossil,"" pouring a comic way with words and her commonsensical Christianity into letters to her daughter, who has compiled them here. She lived her religion with a generous merry heart and this invests her letters as completely as it must have the boarding house she ran in Louisville. Her Episcopal devotion was without ostentation and featured an outspoken distrust of denominational demarcations. Full of advice, disarmingly shrewd observations on the human condition and quotable personal anecdotes, the author's market is assured (despite the superfluous cartoon illustrations).
