A politely told life of the founder from the time he was a nine year old Chigwell schoolboy until his death when he had returned again to England in 1718. Although the overall color to the chain of events- from Cromwell's banishment of the Penn family to Ireland, to Penn's days in jail for his religious beliefs, to the hard job of colonization and settlements with the Indians- is one of rosy righteousness, there is a certain clarity of expression that makes the biography a smooth one. It is lacking though, in frontier flavour.
