The first novel by this author is a perceptive and salty segment of our sea history telling of the first American lighthouse and the intrigues that blocked its erection near Plymouth in 1699. When Prue and Dick Wishart move to Plymouth they soon meet Barny a student, and colorful Mr. Winstanley, the lighthouse architect. There follows intrigue with the French who want Mr. winstanley to work for them, and with a gang of wreckers who profit from the lack of safety measures- and with Dick and Barny instrumental in pinning down the wreckers there is a solving of personal as well as national problems. With its suspense and atmosphere, this is sure fire and recommended sea reading- based on fact.
