BITTER GROUND

.... is an earlier territory in the southwest, and San Ygnacio is the frontier town where Ben, a Marshal, too old for the job he won't give up, must hold his own-alone- against Doc Sprigge, the crookedest faro dealer and straightest shot in the west. He gets some unexpected help from Staff, a newcomer with an assumed name which conceals a reckless record so that when Ben is shot up- and laid up- it is Staff who enforces the law with his gun.... Not new to these parts (Adobe Walls, 1953) Burnett reshuffles an old formula and restyles it for modern tastes. It is essentially a western- and for that audience.
