FRANCE AT WAR

An expanded essay of the author's six week stay in Alsace Lorraine and Paris, a personal record of France at war from the inside. Life behind the lines, what the women are doing in the factories and in the field, life on the Maginot line, in the navy, these are the things he saw. Throughout Maugham emphasizes the dogged determination of the French to win this war and achieve security. Slight but interesting as a first hand account of what is now going on in France.
