MOLLY WHUPPIE

The grand old English folk tale of how clever Molly Whuppie four times outwits the giant--winning freedom for herself and her two sisters, and husbands for all--is here done up like a cross between an animated cartoon and a box of holiday candy. Or, rather, it looks like a confectioner's package, sinuous and jewel-toned, whenever Molly and her two sisters (ostensibly poor English lasses) are featured; and like a cartoon--of fat grotesques--when the giant and his wife are at center-stage. There is nothing robust or comical about any of this, but it can certainly be called eye-filling.
