ROGUE'S GALLERY: A Variety of Mystery Stories

The Shadow knows. . . the cream of the crime crop. . . or at least his creator (Walter Gibson, a. k. a. Maxwell Grant) does, Witness his expertise in collecting and inter-connecting nineteen super shorties by the masters (and Mistress Christie). Including the Messrs. Pentecost and Chandler, W. Somerset. Maugham drawing on his own experience in a spyne-tingler, Carter Dickson who is John Dickson Carr, and King Ellery Queen (two cousins joined pseudonymously). With those teacher-detectives Hildegarde Withers and Leonard Strang in- and ex-officio, and with Brett Halliday without Mike Shayne. Gibson gives out the inside story and puts each in its place in the annals: every one is a bit unique. Most start with the question, one starts with the answer (""I Killed John Harrington!""); and be forewarned that there even appears ""An Unrecorded Idyll of the King.
