THE HOUSE OF SPIES

Second string Deeping -- cloak and sword romance set about 1813, with the tightening of Napoleon's throttle hold, and the threatened invasion of England. Locale -- Sussex. A tried and not too true plot, in which a mysterious house is occupied by a mad visionary, controlled by a French spy and his lovely innocent daughter. She loves a British soldier, who is fated to crush her father. There's battling, duelling, false play and trickery, a kidnapping -- and a happy ending. Adequate of its type, but nothing new. Rentals.
