by William J. Weatherby ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 3, 1967
This first novel by a journalist about a young political scientist from Africa in New York getting "...ready for the arena back home after a grooming in the West" is prefaced by a quote from Dostoevsky: "Do you know the magic of that phrase, 'he is in hiding'? But he will appear, he will appear...". There are no end of insinuations throughout that the hero is on the verge of emerging and relating himself to the Southern scene, the Harlem scene, and his own scene back home; but this topical chronicle might have been best as non-fiction because the author hasn't been able to individualize his main character and his settings enough to convince readers of the appearance of anyone or anything.
