Four lives were lost and the two survivors (who gave white much of the material for this book) were promptly imprisoned on charges of violations of Soviet air space. A description of the ensuing international crisis is followed by a documentary-styled portrait of the interned Captains Olmstead and McKone -- the psychological ordeal, the interrogations by the KGB, the propaganda attempts, the loyalty of the wives. This is a true story handled with persuasiveness, detail and dramatic punch.
