A wholly original development of a familiar folk pattern- that of the little people who come to the aid of friendly mortals and take over while mortals sleep. In this instance, the Marvell family -- that is the father and the children- were more interested in the stars than in humdrum of daily existence. So when they went off to Virginia for a Spring holiday before farm work in Wisconsin got under way, they assumed the hired man would turn up to take care of the animals. But he didn't- and the neighbors were baffled and a little afraid of the strange tenants who had taken over. That those tenants were the characters of the Zodiac never occurred to anyone. Only Mr. Marvell, who had been puzzled over certain absentees in his bit of heaven, wondered.
