With a few exceptions, the author's choices of famous actors and actresses will undoubtedly be unfamiliar to today's teenagers for whom this collection is intended. Nevertheless, some interesting facts, illustrated with photographs , will help enrich any background in theatre. In straight biographical reports, chronologically ordered, brief examinations are made of the lives of Edwin Booth, Joseph Jefferson, The Drews and Barrymores, E. H. Sothern and Julia Marlowe, Maude Adams, George M. Cohan, Katherine Cornell, Helen Hayes, The Lunts and Julie Harris. Remarkably lacking in spark, considering the dazzling assemblage of theatre ""lights"" included, the book remains grounded in its encyclopedic approach. Worthwhile information in dire need of more imaginative styling.
