FREEDOM

There is a great deal of loose thinking on the subject of Freedom, these days. Here is an attempt to bring together the thinking and expression of eminent contemporaries, most of whom have written their contributions specifically for this volume. The roster of contributors is its own advertisement:- for the history and meaning of Freedom there are Thomas Mann, Benedetto Croce, James Truslow Adams, Alfred North Whitehead, and others; for intellectual freedom, the list includes Robert A. Millikan, Alvin Johnson, Frank Kingdon; for freedom in the body politic, Ralph Barton Perry, Charles A. Beard, Louis Brandeis, Gaetano Salvemini; culture and the essence and power of freedom are put forth by John Dewey, Albert Einstein, William Lyon Phelps, Henri Bergson, etc. These are but a fraction of the scholars who have presented their beliefs, and most of them are challenging, stimulating and basically readable. An introduction by the editor, and a summary by Dr. H.W. Schneider help correlate and analyze the sum total. This is the first volume of a proposed Science of Culture series. Colleges -- libraries.
