Bridie, who used to be Kate (from America) goes to spend time with the MacDonalds, a family in the Hebrides, where before long she and son Kenneth drift beyond or rather backwards into the kingdom of Dalriada that was, with its earlier priests and kings and rituals. You know, the Picts and the Celts, where in that earlier incarnation she had been the daughter of the High One. Finally the old Hag known as the Washer at the Ford plays the Remembering Strain on her harp and they return to reality--she and Kenneth have shared the same dream. One of those regressive fantasias in the form of a druidic remain--it should sink like a stone. Whisht.
