THE RIDDLE OF SEEDS

This excellent introduction to seeds, their structure and how they behave, is very easy to read and is geared to observation and experimentation. Topics covered include the parts of seeds, the different ways they grow and how the process of germination occurs, the development of the seed in the flower, the ways seeds scatter, and the uses of seeds. Each chapter is supported with suggestions and explanations for projects or experiments, all of which can be easily emulated and require minimal materials. There are many photographs, and they clarify the descriptions provided in the text. The writing will be both simple and enjoyable for eight year olds to follow.
