HIS KINGDOM FOR A HORSE

Great steeds, who served great masters, are recorded here by an author who gives horses their due. There is much to be said for this approach to the man and horse theme, but the author's repeated suggestion that crucial battles and even Presidential elections hinged on the behaviour of a given horse seems out-of-focus. Alexander, Joan of Arc, Cortez, the Duke of Wellington, and Andrew Jackson are described in equestrian terms. Justin Morgan's horse and the colts he sired are fully treated.
