TICO-TICO

Photographs by Ylla set in a rather labored text by Niccola Tucci concerning a proud squirrel who promised to carry the city away on his back for the love of a pretty feline. Ylla's animal pictures are always a treat and here is a noisy and varied assortment of subjects--Palla, young girl cat, Tico-Tico, the squirrel, a dog, rabbit, frog, turtle, skunk, monkey, and a cockatoo. Tico-Tico never does carry the city on his back but Palla lets him share her house all the same and be the ""squirrel of her heart"", thereby relieving the minds of all the other frightened, angry animals. The author has a feeling for animal personality here--contagious in Ylla pictures--but too much interest has been generated in the fairy tale city-carrying project. Its abandonment is a disappointment to the fanciful child. But watch children, animal lovers and photographers pore over this one!
