THE ORIGINS OF PSYCHOANALYSIS

These Letters to Wilhelm Fliess have been edited by Marie Bonaparte, Anna Freud, and Ernst Dris, and this correspondence which was lost to the world for more than forty years represents the only existing Freud letters. They were written to Dr. Wilhelm Fliess, a noted Berlin nose and throat specialist during the years 1887 to 1902, start with Freud's almost timid speculations on human neuroses and end with his appointment as a full professor at the University of Vienna, a professor who would soon electrify the world with the publication of his ""Psychology"". The letters become increasingly personal and warm as the friendship ripens, and one gets a new view of Freud as a husband and father as well as glimpses into his early research methods- in short a more intimate and more personable Freud..... The letters themselves have had an exciting history-were nearly destroyed in the '30's and were smuggled out of Nazi Germany by Mme. Bonaparte.
